The town of St Gervais dates back to Roman times when a major Roman trading route was established which ran up the Montjoie valley (parts of the road and some bridges remain), and over the subsequent mountains into what is now Italy.
More recent fame has been found for the town via it's skiing, mountaineering and thermal spa facilities, and it is now rightly celebrated as one of the most picturesque and unspoilt alpine resorts in the French alps, with a pretty town square boasting a variety of wonderful shops, bars and restaurants.
Activities for non-skiers and summer visitors are plentiful, with fabulous hiking, cycling, climbing, horse riding, rafting, paragliding and Via Ferrata to name a few.
In addition, St Gervais boasts both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a full sized indoor ice-rink, tennis courts, mini-golf, indoor climbing centre and even a major bungee jumping area. For more relaxed entertainment, there are museums, the famous 'Les Thermes' thermal spa and even a casino for those looking for some night-time excitement.
